Andrea Ciannevi

Andrea Ciannavei is a TV writer, playwright, teacher, and activist. Her credits include Mayans MC for FX, The Path, American Odyssey, Copper, and Borgia. Her play Pretty Chin Up, received a development production by Philip Seymour Hoffmann and John Ortiz of LAByrinth Theater Company at The Public Theater in New York City. Upon graduating Juilliard, Ciannavei traveled to Thailand, India, South Africa, Kenya, Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Egypt, Haiti and Ecuador to conduct interviews and research on human trafficking, sex slavery, gender violence and socio-political and economic issues that impact women for Pulitzer Prize winner Marsha Norman.  From 2008 to 2017, she produced free writing workshops for death row exonerees, wounded veterans returning from service in Iraq and Afghanistan and their family caregivers in Ohio, Texas, New York, Los Angeles and the American Military Hospital in Landstuhl, Germany. She has also been involved in social activism around racial justice and disaster relief work since 2011.  Ciannavei completed her undergraduate studies at N.Y.U.’s Tisch School of the Arts’ Dramatic Writing Program, then went on to Juilliard’s Lila Acheson Playwriting Fellowship from 2008 to 2010.  She’s been published by Playscripts and DAME Magazine.
