Your instructor: Elizabeth L. Silver
Writer, Attorney, UCLA Faculty, and founder of Onward Literary, Elizabeth L. Silver is the author of three acclaimed books, most recently, the novel The Majority, which is a fictionalization of the life of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, combining her love of fiction with her love of the law. Her work has been called “fantastic” by the Washington Post, “masterful” by The Wall Street Journal, “important” by the Los Angeles Times, has been published in seven languages, and optioned for film. Her short writing has appeared in The Washington Post, New York Magazine, Ms. Magazine, The Guardian, Harper's Bazaar, McSweeney’s, The Dallas Morning News, Catamaran Literary Journal, Lilith Magazine, Literary Hub, The Rumpus, The Los Angeles Review of Books, The Millions, among other publications. She’s a graduate of The University of Pennsylvania, Temple University Beasley School of Law, and the University of East Anglia’s Creative Writing MA. Outside of UCLA, she has also taught at Drexel University, St. Joseph’s University, the Community College of Philadelphia, through PEN America, as well as with private writing schools such as Sackett Street and Writing Workshops Los Angeles, and has worked an attorney in both Texas and California. Silver’s interest in the intersection of law and narrative led her to create this unique program aimed at lawyers who have great stories to tell and want to have fun writing outside the confines of the canon. She knows a little bit about combining these fields, having spent her two careers traversing both worlds. Learn more about her here.
